TreeHouse

Portland, OR
2015

A 7-story multi-family apartment building on Marquam Hill, TreeHouse is adjacent to the 15,000 employee medical hub of Oregon Health & Science University, VA Medical Center, and Shriner’s Hospital.

Overview

Idea

Develop the first large apartment building in decades near the medical campus, providing housing for health workers, traveling nurses, and long-term patients who benefit from hospital proximity.

Implementation

The building’s orientation skillfully addresses a constrained urban site and limited access, creating a harmonious connection between the forest and the adjacent medical campus, with residences drawing energy from both.

Results

TreeHouse offers 69 modern studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments and retail on the ground floor that feel immersed in nature, showcasing the surrounding forest, and providing respite from the medical campus.
