Sun Joo Kim
Senior Development Manager
Sun believes that successful projects are shaped as much by people, relationships, and organizations as they are by buildings. She brings more than 25 years of experience across architecture, development, owner's representation, and leadership consulting to help organizations translate vision into projects that create meaningful and lasting community impact.
Prior to Adre, Sun was the Director of Leadership Development and a Senior Management Consultant at Charrette Venture Group (now AVEC), where she advised design firms and executive leaders on strategy, organizational development, leadership, and change management.
Prior to CVG, she served as Owner's Representative for Rose Haven, a Portland nonprofit serving women, children, and nonbinary people experiencing homelessness. She directed the capital project from planning through construction closeout while keeping work on schedule, on budget, and centered on the people it was built to serve.
Sun began her career in architecture and master planning at the Smithsonian Institution and developed expertise in the full arc of development. She has directed projects and teams and advised public agencies, nonprofits, and design firms including Venturi Scott Brown and Associates, Stantec, Gensler, and Oregon’s DEQ.
She is a published author, writer, and speaker on the built environment and financial management. Sun has served as co-chair of the Mentor Committee on the ULI Women's Leadership Initiative and was a founding member of the CREW network’s DEI committee. In 2018 she co-founded Diversity in Design, a resource and networking group that provides access and support for students and professionals of color.
