Parrott Creek Child & Family Services, a provider of residential treatment for highly traumatized youth, held an Oct. 20 groundbreaking ceremony to kick off a multiphase expansion and new construction.
Parrott Creek’s 80-acre campus is located south of Oregon City in unincorporated Clackamas County to provide residential treatment to youth who have been involved in justice and/or foster systems.
In partnership with Adre, an equity-centered real estate development firm, and El Dorado Architects, the project aims to expand the campus by creating modern, trauma-informed and culturally responsive buildings that use cutting-edge design to support the healing work of the residents and staff.

“We are thrilled to mark the expansion of our facility which builds on our 55-year heritage of providing residential care to some of Oregon’s most vulnerable children,” said Simon Fulford, executive director of Parrott Creek Child & Family Services. “While this initiative will provide much-needed behavioral treatment services to more low-income and BIPOC children, youth and families in our community, there is still much more to be done to address the huge gap in services and funding in Oregon.”

The Parrott Creek facility is located on the ancestral homelands of several bands of the Chinook, Kalapuya and Northern Molalla peoples. The expansion design seeks to honor and nurture this legacy through a place-based approach to the healing work undertaken with highly traumatized children and families.
Parrott Creek also aims to develop and nurture a culturally inclusive environment which includes a “Land Back” initiative to reclaim the landscape for use by Indigenous families and communities living in the diaspora through its Cultural Ecology & Trauma Healing Project.
