Portland real estate developer Anyeley Hallová wants to introduce children to the world of real developers, including its negative side, in her contribution to the A Kids Book About series.

Hallová, founder of real estate firm Adre, recently wrote “A Kids Book About Real Estate Development,” in which she introduces kids ages 5 and up to real estate development and how it is different from being an agent or architect.

Hallová, with the help of her own children in the editing process, explains in the book what real estate is and how it works through the metaphor of a film director.

“It's like I'm the director of a movie, except instead of a movie, it's a building project. A director hires all the people, the actors, the stage crew, all those people to get the movie done, and that’s what a real estate developer does, too,” said Hallová, who was also a Portland Business Journal 2022 Woman of Influence.

Hallová said it was important to note this in the book and also square it with the good things real estate developers can do for a community, so that kids can know it's possible to be an equitable developer, she said.

“Real estate development has a lot to do with money, and when money is the only priority, people who live in those communities and the surrounding environment get harmed,” Hallová said while reading the book aloud.

“A lot of people believe that including environmental and social aspects and development projects adds risk. But to me, not including those pieces is more risky, because we need healthy people and a healthy planet in order for our projects to work.”
