Project Type: Mission

Role: Fee Developer
Partners: Black United Fund
The Black United Fund of Oregon is the longest-standing Black-led, BIPOC-focused foundation statewide.
In 1983, leaders in North and Northeast Portland, Oregon noticed that many philanthropic organizations were providing minimal support to communities of color. To combat this inequality these leaders started the BUF to channel charitable funds to low-income areas.
Building United Futures (B.U.F.) Complex, anchored by the Black United Fund, will be a consortium of organizations, programs, and businesses centered on equipping, empowering, encouraging, and engaging Black and other BIPOC communities to enhance their educational advancement, economic mobility, and social liberation.
Activities in the building will focus on justice through philanthropy, advancing public policy, educational programs, community development and engagement, culturally-specific training, bridge building, and business development.
Values: Design Excellence, Educational Advancement, Environmental Stewardship, Equitable Outcomes, and Development Innovation.
Give!Guide Campaign.
BUF’s work increases postsecondary success for youth of color and low-income youth, increases equity in the distribution of philanthropic support to communities of color, and builds unity and resiliency among BIPOC- and female-led and -serving organizations statewide.
